John Amboian is the Non-Executive Chairman and Strategic Advisor to Nuveen, after serving as Nuveen’s Chairman and CEO from 2007 through early 2016. Mr. Amboian joined Nuveen in 1995 and served as the CFO until his appointment as President, from 1999 through 2007.
Prior to joining Nuveen, Mr. Amboian served as Senior Vice President of Finance, Strategic Planning and Systems and Chief Financial Officer of Miller Brewing Company. Mr. Amboian began his career in corporate and International Finance at Kraft Foods Inc. where he also served as its Treasurer, and held key financial and business management positions with Philip Morris Companies.
Mr. Amboian received both a bachelor’s degree and an MBA from the University of Chicago. He chairs the board of directors of Nuveen, previously served on the board of several Nuveen Mutual Funds and is an adviser to Madison Dearborn Partners.
Mr. Amboian is a member of the Executive Committee of Lurie Children’s Hospital and chairs the Investment Committee of the North Shore Country Day School Foundation. He also serves on the boards of several civic and not-for-profit organizations in the Chicago area.
