John Amboian is a private investor and was Chairman and CEO of Nuveen Investments from 2007 until retiring in 2016. Prior to this, he served as Nuveen’s president from 1999 to 2007, after joining Nuveen in 1995 as CFO. Before joining Nuveen, he served as Senior Vice President of Finance, Strategic Planning, Systems, and CFO of Miller Brewing Company. He began his career in corporate and international finance at Kraft Foods Inc., where he rose to be Treasurer.

Previously, Mr. Amboian served on the Nuveen Mutual Funds board from 2007 through 2015 and Nuveen Investment’s public board from 1995 through 2007. Presently, he is an industry advisor to Madison Dearborn Partners and a senior advisor to Estancia Capital, a middle market private equity fund with a focus on financial services. Mr. Amboian chairs the board of North Square Investments, a boutique asset management firm in Chicago, as well as other private investment companies. He is on the advisory board of Cresset Capital Management, a wealth management firm, and advises several businesses on organic and inorganic growth initiatives through JA Capital Advisors, LLC.

Mr. Amboian is a member of the board of Lurie Children’s Hospital and its investment committee. He chairs the Investment Committee of the North Shore Country Day School Foundation. He also serves on the boards of other civic and not-for-profit organizations in the Chicago area.
